Toula’s Story

Toula’s Story - Living through breast cancer

Breast cancer came as shock to Toula when she was first diagnosed and the treatment that followed was challenging.

In this short video, Toula talks about her experience of breast cancer and her treatment. She reflects on the value of support through this time and touches on the services of exercise medicine, psychology, dietetics and lymphodema screening and how they played an important role in her recovery.

“I was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer and it felt very surreal at the beginning” recalls Toula.

“My oncologist recommended the services that Lift provides at my first appointment that I had with her when we were talking about my treatment.”

“The medical exercise has helped me significantly. One of the main benefits of it has been it has helped me manage my side effects, especially from the chemotherapy.”

Toula also took advantage of other services offered at Lift. “I saw the psychologist which was really important because she helped me put some strategies in place that allowed me to manage that anxiety, a little bit better, and put the whole cancer side of things into a little bit more of a perspective.”

“I also met with a dietitian, right at the beginning of my treatment because I wanted to get some advice on my nutritional requirements through treatment, in particular with chemo.

“Because I've had breast cancer I am at risk of developing lymphoedema, so I had a lymphoedema screening at Lift.”

“I would recommend Lift without any hesitation. It's one of the better things to happen to me over the past 12 months. One of the main benefits has been the fact that it has helped me with managing my fatigue and managing my other side effects coming out of the treatment. I have always felt supported and safe at Lift.”
