Exercise Medicine

The evidence highlighting the importance of exercise during cancer treatment continues to grow. The experts all agree that exercise should be prescribed to all cancer patients from the point of diagnosis. Exercise is a vital part of your treatment. At Lift, we specialise in Exercise Oncology and are here to support you with targeted exercise that is safe and appropriate for your circumstances.
Research shows that people who exercise during and after cancer treatment experience fewer side effects, recover faster and enjoy better quality of life. In fact, leading cancer organisations worldwide recommend that every person with cancer should be prescribed exercise from the point of diagnosis.

At Lift, we specialise in Exercise Oncology. We deliver evidence-based, targeted exercise designed specifically for people with cancer.

Getting Started

If you would like to undergo Exercise Treatment at Lift, the first step is to book an Initial Assessment. This is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary screening assessment designed to determine how the service at Lift can best support you based on your needs.

The Initial Assessment is a comprehensive 2 hour assessment. You will see one of our Medical Practitioners first to assess you medically, followed by one of our Exercise Clinicians to assess you physically. The purpose of this assessment is to ensure you receive exercise at Lift that is safe, appropriate and individually tailored to your needs.

The clinical staff will also screen you for the other allied services offered through Lift:

• Dietetics

• Clinical Psychology

• Physiotherapy

• Lymphoedema Screening

• Lymphoedema Treatment

• Women’s and Men’s Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

If it is determined that you need any of the above services, they will be discussed with you during your assessment. You can then decide which clinical services you would like to make appointments for. There is no obligation for you to book any of these services.

Do I need a referral to book an Initial Assessment?

No referral is needed to get started. However, we recommend involving your treating specialists so your exercise treatment fits seamlessly with the rest of your medical care. With your consent, we can contact them directly to coordinate your treatment.

If you are interested in Exercise Medicine treatment at Lift, we encourage you to discuss a referral with your specialist (Surgeon, Medical Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist, Haematologist, Urologist).

You can download a referral form HERE to take to your specialist appointment.
