New Graduate Program (Physiotherapy & Exercise Physiology)
At Lift Cancer Care Services, we are passionate about building the future cancer care workforce.
Our New Graduate Program for Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists is designed to support early-career clinicians to develop confidence, clinical excellence and leadership skills within a specialist oncology environment.
Through structured mentoring, supervised clinical exposure and participation in our unique Lift Model of Care, graduates gain the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to improving outcomes and quality of life for people living with and beyond cancer.
Applications for our 2027 are now open
If you are graduating in Physiotherapy or Exercise Physiology in 2026 and want to begin your career in an innovative, multidisciplinary cancer care service, we would love to hear from you.
Applications close Friday 25th September 2026 at 9.00 am ACST.
Why begin your career at Lift?
Your first professional role shapes the clinician you become.
At Lift, you will begin your career in an environment where learning is actively supported, questions are encouraged and your development is taken seriously.
You will work alongside clinicians with experience across Oncology Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Lymphoedema management, Psychology, Dietetics, Medicine and other areas of cancer care.
You will see how different disciplines work together to provide coordinated, individualised care and understand the important contribution your own profession can make throughout cancer treatment, recovery and survivorship.
You will not be expected to arrive as an oncology expert. Our role is to help you build that expertise.
What the program offers
The Lift New Graduate Program combines clinical experience with structured professional development.
As a graduate, you will receive:
Structured mentoring and regular support from experienced clinicians
Supervised exposure to a broad range of cancer diagnoses, treatments and clinical presentations
A supported transition from university into professional practice
Opportunities to develop specialised knowledge in exercise oncology and cancer rehabilitation
Experience working within a genuinely multidisciplinary model of care
Regular clinical education, case discussion and reflective learning
Support to strengthen your clinical reasoning, communication and decision-making
Opportunities to develop confidence, professional identity and emerging leadership skills
Exposure to an innovative healthcare model focused on translating evidence into everyday patient care
Program structure
The New Graduate Program is offered as a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months, commencing in January 2027.
The program is designed to provide a supported transition into professional practice while helping graduates build the clinical knowledge, confidence and experience required for a career in cancer care.
At the completion of the 12-month program, there may be opportunities for graduates to transition into an ongoing permanent full-time role at Lift, subject to performance, organisational needs and position availability.
Your clinical experience
Depending on your profession, skills and areas of interest, your clinical experience may include work across the following areas.
Medically supervised Exercise Medicine
Work within Lift’s medically supervised Exercise Medicine Clinic, where individualised exercise medicine is delivered as part of cancer treatment and supportive care.
You will learn to assess, prescribe and adapt exercise for people at different stages of the cancer continuum, including those experiencing treatment-related symptoms, functional changes and complex health needs.
Cancer rehabilitation and outpatient care
Support patients through individualised Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology care designed to improve function, manage symptoms and help people remain active and independent during and after cancer treatment.
Clinical exposure may include:
Cancer-related fatigue
Loss of strength, fitness or physical function
Pain and musculoskeletal concerns
Treatment-related deconditioning
Balance and mobility changes
Neuropathy
Bone health considerations
Return to activity, work and valued daily roles
Rehabilitation following surgery or other cancer treatment
Lymphoedema and early intervention
Physiotherapy graduates with an interest in lymphoedema may also have opportunities to gain exposure to Lift’s specialised early-intervention lymphoedema service.
This may include assessment, education, prospective surveillance and management for people at risk of developing—or currently living with—cancer-related lymphoedema.
More than clinical skills
Clinical knowledge matters, but becoming an excellent clinician requires more than technical capability.
Throughout the program, we will also support you to develop the skills needed to communicate effectively, contribute confidently within a team, navigate complex clinical situations and provide care that recognises the whole person, not only their diagnosis.
You will be encouraged to think critically, remain curious, seek feedback and take increasing ownership of your development.
Our goal is not simply to help you complete your first year of practice. It is to help you build the foundations for a meaningful and impactful career.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for graduates who are:
Curious and motivated to learn
Passionate about helping people achieve better outcomes
Committed to compassionate, person-centred care
Open to feedback and reflective practice
Reliable, proactive and willing to contribute to a team
Interested in developing specialist skills in cancer care
Excited by the opportunity to work within an innovative and evolving model of healthcare
Previous oncology experience is not essential.
What matters most is your willingness to learn, your commitment to excellent care and your belief that exercise, rehabilitation and supportive care can meaningfully change a person’s experience of cancer.
Eligibility
Applicants should be completing in 2026 a recognised qualification in:
Physiotherapy, with eligibility for registration as a Physiotherapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); or
Exercise Physiology, with eligibility for accreditation as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
